Registering for gifts is easily one of the most fun parts about wedding planning, but for some, it can feel a bit overwhelming. After all, there are few moments in life when you can request exactly what you want as a gift. The experts at GEARYS Beverly Hills make it easy. For years, we’ve been helping brides and grooms select the perfect items to create their dream wedding registries. GEARYS President and CEO Thomas J. Blumenthal weighed in with his top five DOs and DON’Ts:
TOP 5 DOs:
- DO include a wide variety of items and price tiers. Everyone attending your wedding has a different budget in mind for a gift, so include a range of items to suit a range of budgets. If you’re including dinnerware on your registry, pick brands ranging from Dibbern to Bernardaud and include price points in between.
- DO focus on entertaining, which does not necessarily mean formal china for a sit-down dinner. Be honest with yourself and your entertaining style. Do you usually have formal sit-down dinners, or does your entertaining revolve around the kitchen island? If you picked the former, add the fine bone china or French Limoges porcelain that you’ve been dreaming about. If you prefer the latter, smalls plates, serving bowls and trays will probably suffice for your entertaining needs.
- DO include items that you will enjoy every day but also items you wouldn’t necessarily buy yourself. This is the time to request gifts you’ve dreamed about such as fine crystal and elegant silverware.
- DO mix and match, and incorporate family heirlooms. It’s okay to mix it up—this celebration is all about you and your new family, after all! Think about gifts that you could pass on to the next generation.
- DO make an experience out of the registry process by involving a few of your favorite people. You can register easily online with friends and family, or share it with them for feedback on style, functionality and anything else they suggest adding. It’s a win-win either way.
TOP 5 DON’Ts:
- DON’T wait until the last minute to register. Gifts can be expensive. Allow your guests to plan ahead by registering early. Often times, family and friends will give gifts from a couple’s registry to celebrate their engagement, showers and other special events leading up to the big day.
- DON’T decide immediately. One of the many benefits of registering with us is that you will be given a store credit, so you have the flexibility to adjust your registry as needed after the celebration!
